Doug Glading -- Memories of IBM

Main Page -- Summary.

I worked for IBM UK for quite a long time. I basically enjoyed it; I found it interesting, absorbing, sometimes difficult, but overall something to look back on with some satisfaction.
It was great to be near the forefront of a lot of new things. Lots of leading (and bleeding) edge early use!!
And, I guess most of all, it was a pleasure to meet and work with so many lovely people. From many different countries.

Especially early on there was a great comradeship - everybody helped everybody. And it seemed a great place to work. Not atall like the IBM of today I'm most sorry to say.

Other Info A very interesting book on life in the IBM Birmingham/Nottingham branches is:
"From Out of the Blue: Three Former IBM'ers Tell It Like It Was" by Frank Broad, Tony Gladwin and Bob Marvin
Publisher: Management Books 2000 Ltd (Nov 1996) ISBN-10: 1852522070
The authors are 3 IBM Salesmen - I never actually worked specifically with any of them, but it's worth reading their insights. (NB one of their anecdotes is about a 'Doug' - that was another salesman, not me...)
